Today I wanted to share with you the Moroccan tajine with meatballs and eggs recipe. It is one of the most popular tajines in Morocco. Your family will love it! It is easy and fast to prepare.
Tajine can be served:
- crusty bread/baguette
- couscous or other type of cereal.

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 50 min

Meatballs Ingredients:
150 g of minced beef
1 egg (optional)
1 teaspoon of sweet paprika
1/2 teaspoon of cumin
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of chilli paprika
3 tablespoons of coriander
1/4 of a large onion
Tomato Sauce Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of olive oil
8 eggs (this portion is for 4 people)
1 1/2 teaspoon of cumin
1 1/2 teaspoon of sweet paprika
1 1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of chilli paprika
2 tablespoons of coriander
1 tablespoon of coriander (to garnish at the end of cooking)
500g of tomato sauce
3/4 of onion (the remaining onion)
2 garlic cloves

The inspiration for this dish came from my trip to Morocco. I tasted it for the very first time at my husbands' family home. It was delicious! Since I am living with Moroccan under one roof, I am trying to master the Moroccan dishes, and here today you can see my interpretation of one of them.
Preparing meatballs:
1. Chop 1/4 of the big onion very finely.
2. Add all the ingredients to the minced meat and mix it very well.
3. Form meatballs of the size of a grape.
Preparing tomato sauce:
1. Chop the remaining onion into small cubes.
2. Heat up an olive oil and fry onion until it turns golden.
3. Add grated garlic and fry it for 2 more minutes.
4. Add tomato sauce, let it until starts bubbling and add all the spices, coriander and mix it well. Let it cooking covered for 15-20 minutes until the onion softens and sauce thickens.
5. Adjust spices if necessary.
6. Add meatballs, cover the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes from each side.
7. When the meatballs are cooked, add eggs on the top, sprinkle little bit of salt on each and decorate with coriander. Cook eggs for another 6-7 min (to your preference) or until they are cooked.
Serve with crusty bread.
